Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, sleepy town. The people who aren't familiar with this term often think that there is a separate island in the west of Montreal however, this part of West Island is home to every aspect of the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel grew-up in Courtice near Oshawa, Ontario. She wanted to become professional, however due to an explosive growth spurt she outgrew all of her dancing partners. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. Once I was bigger than the size of my male companion and stopped dancing, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in the instance of Brugel, it was an urging from her drama teacher. The teacher was the one who advised her to audition to play the character of Anne for their school's annual production. She auditioned and was cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts in the year 2000. Through the years since Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions across both small and large screens drawing the most media attention after she was offered the part in the role of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel appeared only on rare occasions in the first season of the show The Handmaid's Tale. She was the only Canadian actor.
